2 GW of Installed Capacity By The End of 2018

posted in News

Jakarta, inaga-api.or.id - Following the operation of PLTP Karaha Unit 1 30 MW, PLTP Sarulla Unit 3 has COD with capacity of 86 MW on 2 April 2018, so that the total capacity of geothermal power plant in Indonesia reaches 1,924.5 MW, almost 2 GW.

Indonesia will surpass 2 GW this year also, there are 4 more projects that will COD of 2018 that is; PLTP Sorik Marapi Modullar Unit 1- 20 MW in 2nd semester, PLTP Sorik Marapi Marapi Modullar Unit 2 -30 MW, PLTP Lumut Balai Unit 1 - 55 MW and PLTP Sokoria Unit 1- 5 MW, all in December 2018.

With the operation of those plants, Indonesia's geothermal power plant capacity exceeds 2 GW by the end of 2018 PLN estimated that electricity growth is only 6.1 percent, lower than 2017-2026 RUPTL's 8.3 percent, so in its new electricity supply business RUPTL PLN 2018 – 2027, state power company proposed for just 56.024 GW down from the previous plan 2017-2026 77.8 GW of 21.8 GW revision, clean energy power plants' construction by 2028 reduces to 14 GW. from the previous plan of 21,5 GW. Geothermal Power Plant reduces from 6290 MW – to 4583 MW, Hydro form 13762 MW to 8283 MW, while other Renewable energy increase form 1224 MW to 2046 MW.

Despite the decline, the 4.5 GW geothermal development plan in 2018-2027 which is equivalent to 8.2% of total national power plant development (56 GW) shows the important role and government support on geothermal energy as well as reflects the readiness of geothermal developers in Indonesia.
